Skillshare is one of the most popular online learning platforms but is it any good?

I’ve taken many great courses on Skillshare and even published a few of my own so I really got to know the best features, flaws, and behind-the-scenes of the platform.

That’s why I wanted to make a Skillshare review and help you decide if it’s the right course platform for you.

Here are the best features and worst drawbacks of Skillshare:

  • Offers 30-Day Free Trial

If it's your first time trying Skillshare you can claim a free 30-day trial. This amount of time is more than enough to take your first few courses even if you're short on time, and try out the platform.

  • Learning Paths

If you don't know where to start, Skillshare offers learning paths which are sets of courses from different teachers that help you master different levels of the same subject. Learning paths are great to go in-depth on one skill.

  • Massive Library Of Classes

Skillshare has thousands of classes on varying subjects and difficulty levels so you can start learning a new skill from scratch or pick up another one from the level that you're at.

  • Friendly User Interface

The platform recommends classes that have good reviews & student engagement. It's easy to find a class and you don't have to dig through thousands of them to find the one that fits your needs.

  • Project Based Learning

Skillshare offers hands-on creative classes which means that there is always a class project with every course that you take. It's like a mini project that helps put the skills you learn into practice so that you can remember them easier in the future.

  • Courses Undergo A Hidden Review Process

Every class on Skillshare undergoes a hidden quality review process. How do I know this? I've been teaching on Skillshare and their guidelines are very strict on which courses get accepted onto the platform. This ensures the highest quality possible.

  • Supports Other Languages Via Captions

If you're not a native English speaker, Skillshare has built-in audio captions. German, English, Spanish, French & Portugese languages are currently supported.

  • Cheapest After YouTuber

Skillshare is the cheapest online learning platform after YouTube. You can learn a lot of things on YouTube but the information is scattered all over the place & it's hard to find the right difficulty level. Skillshare offers the next best learning alternative but without the drawbacks of YouTube.

  • Buggy Video Player

Sometimes the Skillshare video player bugs out and the UI elements become hidden. This is not a major issue but something to bare in mind.

  • Most Courses Teach Creative Skills

There are many entrepreneurship, productivity and marketing classes on Skillshare but most are targeted towards creative skills. This could be a huge plus but also a drawback for those who are looking to learn other types of skills.

  • Most Classes Aimed At Beginners

If you're trying to learn a new skill from scratch then Skillshare is the best platform to start with. However, if you're already an expert and want to deepen your knowledge then it will be hard to find extremely in-depth courses on Skillshare to do so.
