Videos on YouTube can go viral if they have a mediocre execution but not if the idea is bad.

In fact, ideas are so important that Mr.Beast, one of the biggest creators on the YouTube, said: “You should put a lot of freaking time into your ideas”.

But how to come up with good ideas?

It’s very rare for a creator to sit down to write a script and immediately know what to write it about.

Idea generation takes time.

The process of coming up with YouTube video ideas is no doubt different for everyone.

Even worse – ideas run out!

Even if you have a list of ideas for future videos there’s still going to come a point where there are no more left.

Or at least, no more good ones left.

That’s why in this blog post I’ve compiled the best YouTube video ideas for even faceless channels as well as tips and tricks on how to come up with better ones:

How to come up with viral YouTube video ideas on your own?

“For most people they could spend a 100 days making 1 video a day that averages 10 000 views a video, or they could just sit down, come up with a good video and just get 1 000 000 views in a week.” – Mr.Beast

1. Use AI to come up with YouTube video ideas

If you’re completely stuck and out of video ideas, you can use AI to help.

One of the best content creation tools that not only helps you write YouTube video scripts with AI but also comes up with video ideas for you is called Rytr.ai

Of course, AI is not at the level of beating actual human ideas but it can give you a good general direction to go.

Usually, the ideas that the tool generates aren’t extremely great but it will give you ideas for coming up with your own ideas.

2. Analyze other YouTubers

One of the best ways to come up with original ideas is to combine two or more other ideas

As the author of the wonderful book “Steal Like An Artist” put it:

“Start copying what you love. Copy copy copy copy. At the end of the copy you will find your self.”

– Austin Kleon

Coming up with your own original idea is just a matter of finding what other people are doing that’s working and then adding your own twist to it.

That’s the motto of one of the largest Twitch streamers and now YouTubers Ludwig.

He says:

“Yoink and twist”.

This means that you can take an idea from someone else and add something of your own or combine it with another viral idea, making it your original idea.

“Nothing is original. Steal from anywhere that resonates with inspiration or fuels your imagination. Devour old films, new films, music, books, paintings, photographs, poems, dreams, random conversations, architecture, bridges, street signs, trees, clouds, bodies of water, light and shadows. Select only things to steal from that speak directly to your soul. If you do this, your work (and theft) will be authentic. Authenticity is invaluable; originality is nonexistent.”

– Jim Jarmusch

You can analyze what videos get a lot of views and which ones are get recommended to you on YouTube’s homepage.

What’s the idea behind them?

What makes the viewers click?

Of course, a video could be popping off because of a great thumbnail or the personality of the creator but usually, the videos with the most views have an incredible idea behind them.

3. Use VidIQ

How o check demand for a niche on YouTube

Another software that can generate ideas for videos is VidIQ

It’s also a great keyword research tool for finding low-competition and high-search volume keywords to include in your videos’ descriptions.

Just like Jasper, VidIQ doesn’t give you the best ideas for videos but it can get you on the right track

AI combines what’s popular on YouTube at the moment and caters to your channel’s niche.

So sometimes the ideas might sound strange.

It’s best to take the idea that VidIQ generated and combine it with another idea from YouTube or add your own twist.

4. Become an active content consumer

To come up with better YouTube ideas you could try to analyse videos that you’re watching

That way the content that you consume on YouTube will be beneficial to your own channel’s growth.

Try to notice these things when you watch YouTube:

  • What made you click on a video?
  • Why did you not click on other videos, why wasn’t it convincing enough?
  • How do other creators design their thumbnails to complement the idea?
  • Did you quit mid-way through watching a video, why?
  • What made you watch all the way to the end?
  • What hook did the YouTuber use in the beginning?
  • How was the title worded?
  • Why did this thumbnail stand out on the home screen or YouTube search?

5. Browse Twitter for ideas

Twitter App Logo

Twitter is a great way to find ideas for content because on Twitter people share interesting threads.

If you follow the right people on Twitter that create posts in a similar niche as your YouTube channel you can take advantage of it and grab those post ideas for your YouTube videos.

6. Ask your audience

SocialBlade YouTube analytics

One of the easiest ways to get new ideas is to look for patterns in your comment section or just ask your audience.

People will naturally have questions that they’ll ask in the comments and if you see many repeated questions you can create a video answering them.

If you have access to the YouTube community tab (500 subscribers required) then you can post a poll and get your audience to vote on which video they would like to watch from you next.
